Foxycape PDF for Obsidian

A PDF reader for Obsidian: highlights, citations, and deep links all return to the source—connected to your note workflow.

Why you need it

  • Highlights stay in the PDF while vault notes stay elsewhere.
  • Grabbing a figure usually means a blurry screenshot.
  • Pasted quotes and images rarely point back to the exact page or region.
  • Light PDF pages feel harsh in a dark vault theme.
  • Switching readers can break page/selection links you already use.

Features

Highlight → note sync

Each new highlight can create or update a Markdown note with the same name, append the excerpt with a back-link, and optionally open that note in a split pane.

Extract embedded images

Hover an embedded image to preview, copy, or download the original asset — no blurry screenshots.

Cite text and images, then jump back

Copy Markdown citations with deep links (#page= / #selection= / #markId=) and open back in Foxycape from the note.

Theme-aware PDF pages

Optionally remap grayscale vector colors to your theme foreground/background (BETA). Color artwork stays as-is.

Compatible with Obsidian PDF links

Understands #page= and #selection=, can become the default PDF viewer, and adds #markId= for precise highlight jumps.

Highlights and highlight list

Highlighter, wavy underline, and straight underline with custom colors. Filter, sort, jump, or delete in the list.

Navigation and search

Outline, page thumbnails, page picker, and in-document search with case / diacritic / whole-word options.

Reading layout

Zoom, vertical or horizontal scroll, single / facing / book layout, rotation, and password-protected PDFs on desktop and mobile.
